American Legion posts sponsor more than 2,500 Scouting units across the country. This is natural for Legionnaires, who bring their service-learned skills and experiences as veterans to help build character and positive traits in our country’s youth.

The South Dakota American Legion seeks to award Scouts who are members of Scouting America in the State of South Dakota with scholarships (“camperships”) up to $400 to attend any Scouting America weeklong camp in South Dakota. All Scouts who are in their first year of Scouting America membership and who have not yet attended a week of Scouting Summer Camp are encouraged to apply with the recommendation of their Scoutmaster and approval of the Troop Committee Chair. Eagle Scout of the Year
The American Legion honors the Eagle Scout of the Year at the national convention with a $10,000 scholarship. The three runners-up get $2,500. Further information is available from department adjutants or the Americanism and Children & Youth Division.
